The Mission has been Fishin' since day one!

Since 1969, the Bonanno Family has been fishing in Bristol Bay, making a living off harvesting Sockeye Salmon. From the beginning, they have brought home a few fillets in the form of a “home pack,” curing it and smoking it. They would then share that “home pack,” first with their family, then with their friends, then with that other guy named Jim who always asked for a few fillets. Eventually, bringing home 10 fillets turned into 20 fillets, 20 turned into 40, 40 turned into 80, 80 into 160. Until it evolved into what it is today, a company with the same love and respect for Sockeye Salmon as the beginning, just sharing it with more friends (and more guys named Jim)!

The Mission

The Mission has been Fishin’ since day one!

Since 1969 the Bonanno Family have been fishing in Bristol Bay, making a living off their catch. The elusive yet bountiful sockeye salmon. The Bristol Bay watershed is the single largest sockeye salmon migration in the WORLD with approximately 46% of the species pass through these waters. For years the Bonanno family has just sold their product to the local canneries who create large amounts of waste, don’t utilize the entire fish, doesn’t focus on freshness yet makes astronomical profits and pay the fisherman pennies on the dollar.

Our Story

Today that changes, at M.I.F Seafood our pillars for success are focusing on FRESHNESS, SUSTAINABILTY, and keeping this abundant resource WILD. Since the beginning we have brought home some catch in the form of a “home pack,” curing it and smoking it. We would take this vibrant fish and honor it the best way we saw fit, by sharing it with loved one and conversing about where this fish came from and the importance of it for our family and the next generation. After we shared with our family we would share with friends, and so on and so forth. Until it turned into what it is today a company with the same love and respect for Sockeye Salmon as the beginning, just sharing it with new Friends!
